Freddy is a young flying squirrel who has watched his mother and other adults glide gracefully from tree to tree. He cannot wait until he can do the same. But his mother keeps telling him he is not old enough yet and that she will teach him when it is time. Freddy knows he is ready now and decides that he is smarter than his mother and the other adults. So he leaves the nest when his mother is gone one night, runs into a tree and falls to the ground stunned where he is captured and placed in a cage.
